"My name is Laurie. I am 36 years old and we have battled infertility since 1989. We have one child and he is 5 years old. He was conceived through an intrauterine insemination and the use of injectable Metrodin and oral Clomid.

On January 7, I had to face truth. My doctor finally insisted that I enter the hospital for at least a few days.  In the months prior, I had an erratic heart rate,  numbness in most of my body, serious stomach problems, excruciating joint pain, chest pain that made most movement unbearable, and a body weight of eighty pounds on an athletic 5'6" frame.  Like most days, I could hardly think or stay awake.  This particular day, my standing heart rate dipped into the thirties, far below the average of eighty.  My doctor checked me over:  my eyes dark and sunken, my skin tissue-thin and parched, my hair sparse from months of falling out, mouth covered in sores, bones nearly piercing through pallid skin, atrophied muscles nearly tearing from my bones with every movement.  I had been nearly bedridden for over a month, yet I struggled to convince my doctor that hospitalization was unnecessary.  After all, these conditions are normal for an elderly woman, as my doctor told me for months.

But I was only 24.

The diagnosis: severe malnutrition, anorexia.  As protocol, I should have been admitted into a mental institution, not a hospital, but I was blessed with a caring doctor.  Late in the night that I was admitted, he stood at the foot of my bed visibly troubled and struggling for words. He could not explain why I was still alive, and admitted that he did not know how to help me survive, much less regain my health.  Neither the doctors nor the hospital had ever treated an anorexic or a patient so severely malnourished.

After two weeks of intravenous nutrition, heart monitoring, and physical therapy, my condition worsened rapidly. I became weaker, maintained a state of stupor, and lost most of my vision, due to the medications added to my IV such as Zantac and Valium, which are toxins that further destroyed my weakened body. Unbeknownst to me, two patients in similar condition in the same hospital died during my two-week stay from the same treatment.  When my last vein collapsed from the intense IV feeding, the doctor released me.  Since no other alternatives were available, the hospital staff expected me to die soon.

God had a better plan, and sent His saints to intervene.  At the request of friends, Doug Lawrence, Don Ashmus, and Shawn Piazza (Enrich distributors) visited me the day before my release to explain what herbs I should take and why.  My doctors supported the idea because it was my last hope. My doctor was amazed to tears when five days after my release from the hospital, not only was I alive, but I woke up that morning, ate breakfast, dressed myself, and walked into his office smiling.  That same day, I was blessed with the opportunity to speak formally to residents at the local medical school about my "special case."
